From 6 to 12 November 2023, the Italian Medicines Agency is taking part in the global #MedSafetyWeek campaign, in which numerous non-governmental organisations and more than 80 regulatory agencies are joining together to raise awareness of the importance of reporting suspected side effects of medicines, using social channels to disseminate shared materials internationally.
Now in its eighth year, the campaign is led by the UMC (Uppsala Monitoring Centre, the WHO collaborating centre for international drug monitoring) and supported by members of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA).
All medicines agencies operate systems to detect and analyse the side effects of medicines. The aim of safety monitoring is to obtain more information on known side effects and possibly discover new ones in order to protect patients. Therefore, every report made by a patient or healthcare professional is carefully evaluated and examined to identify the measures to be taken to reduce or prevent possible problems for patients.
Through its participation in the 2023 campaign, AIFA would like to remind you once again of the importance of always reporting suspected adverse drug reactions directly on the Agency's website, following the instructions on the 'How to report an adverse reaction' page.
Please view the campaign posts on AIFA social channels.
