AIFA participates in #MedSafetyWeek 2024
Also this year, the Italian Medicines Agency is participating in the global patient safety campaign #MedSafetyWeek, now in its ninth edition (4-10 November 2024).
The initiative brings together 107 organisations, in 94 countries, to raise awareness of the importance of reporting suspected adverse drug reactions, using social channels to disseminate shared materials internationally. This year's messages focus on the importance of always using medicines as directed to prevent adverse effects and reporting them when they occur, thus helping to make medicines safer for everyone.
The campaign is led by the Uppsala Monitoring Center (UMC), the World Health Organisation's collaborating centre for international medicines monitoring, and is supported by members of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA).
All Medicines Agencies operate systems to detect and analyse adverse drug effects. The aim of safety monitoring is to obtain more information on known side effects and possibly discover new ones in order to protect patients.
By participating in the 2024 campaign, AIFA intends to remind people of the importance of reporting drug side effects directly on the Agency's website, following the instructions on the dedicated page.
