AIFA Board of Directors requests further information on the reimbursement of contraceptive pills
Press Release No. 705 - The AIFA Board of Directors has noted that the Agency's Advisory Committees have not yet developed precise indications on the age groups to be granted the birth control pill free of charge, the distribution methods, and the costs for the National Health System in the various reimbursement cases. For example, this is the case for all women of childbearing age, for economically disadvantaged women, or for young women up to 19-26 years old, as is the case in some European countries and in the six Italian regions offering birth control pills free of charge. The Board has therefore noted that there are no essential elements for deliberation.
As usual, the Board of Directors states that it is ready to play its role and to fully express its opinion as soon as it receives the appropriate inquiry requested from the Advisory Committees. With these indications, the Board of Directors also undertakes to set up a consultation board with the supervisory ministries and with the Conference of Regions.
