Press release no. 2/2024 - AIFA's new Scientific and Economic Committee for Medicines (CSE) took office yesterday, 26 March 2024. The Committee brings together the functions and responsibilities attributed, prior to the Agency's reform, to the Scientific-Technical Committee (CTS) and the Pricing and Reimbursement Committee (CPR). The Committee meeting, chaired by Lara Nicoletta Angela Gitto, was attended by the following members (two ex officio and seven appointed):

• Pierluigi Russo, Technical and Scientific Director of the Italian Medicines Agency
• Rocco Bellantone, President of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità
• Lara Nicoletta Angela Gitto, Chair, designated by the Minister of Health
• Giancarlo Agnelli, member designated by the Minister of Health
• Walter Marrocco, member designated by the Minister of Health
• Ida Fortino, member designated by the Minister of Economy and Finance
• Elisa Sangiorgi, member designated by the Permanent Conference for relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano  
• Giuseppe Toffoli, member designated by the Permanent Conference for relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano  
• Giovanna Scroccaro, member designated by the Permanent Conference for relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano  

Pierluigi Russo, Technical and Scientific Director, outlined the proposed Rules for the organisation and functioning of the CSE, finalised in collaboration and with the revision of AIFA Administrative Director Giovanni Pavesi.

The Committee examined the items on the agenda and approved the opinion on the updating of the Prontuario della continuità assistenziale ospedale-territorio (PHT) (hospital-territory continuity of care handbook), in application of the provisions of the last Budget Law (paragraph 224, art. 1, Law 213/2023).

Finally, the various activities of the Agency were presented by the heads of the technical divisions.
